Abstract

479,727. Rectilinear motion bearings. GENTON, R. May 27, 1937, No. 14708. Convention date, June 10, 1936. [Class 12 (i)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVII] In a motor power plant consisting of a two-stroke explosion motor and an exhaust turbine, a hollow shaft forms a cylinder for two opposed pistons the displacements of which, on either side of an intermediate combustion chamber, are transformed into a continuous rotary movement of the shaft, the pistons, and a flywheel integral with the shaft which is provided with convergent-divergent nozzles 18 forming both a ventilator for the transport of cooling air, for the suction of the exhaust gases, and a reaction turbine utilizing the residual energy of these gases. The plant, Fig. 1; has a hollow shaft 1 rotating on needle bearings 4, 5 containing two pistons 2, 3 which reciprocate on either side of the combustion chamber 13. Each of these pistons 2, 3 has a spindle 21 22 which passes through the wall of the shaft 1 by a longitudinal slot 23, 24 and the ends of which engage a groove 11, 12 so cut in the casing parts 6, 7 as to enable the reciprocating movement of the pistons to be converted into a continuous rotary movement of the shaft, its flywheel, and the pistons themselves. Several constructions of the spindles 21, 22, are described and one of these, Fig. 20, has rollers 112 fixed to flats on the spindle so as to allow it to move freely in the shaft, and a sleeve 111 rotating on needles forming a pulley for rolling in the guiding grooves 11, 12.
