479,549. Loud-speakers. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. Nov. 20, 1936, No. 31870. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1935. [Class 40 (iv)] A loud-speaker unit for public address systems comprises a main loud-speaker arranged so that sound is emitted initially in a vertical direction and is reflected by the surfaces of deflecting members so that it is propagated in all directions radially together with several additional loud-speakers radiating the high frequency sounds direct to the listener and located in, or adjacent the mouth of, the sound passage formed by the deflecting members, or above or below the sound-deflecting members. Sound from a large diaphragm loud-speaker 1 passes through a passage constituted by a curved surface 3 formed in a housing 2 and the lower surface of a deflecting member 4. The loud-speakers 5 for transmitting the higher frequencies are equiangularly arranged in the lower part of the housing. The axes of the loud-speakers 5 are adjustable and are preferably inclined slightly towards the ground. Conical or V-shaped deflectors may be located between the loud-speakers 5.
