Abstract

479,212. Metal bars. RICHARDS, F. Sept. 30, 1936, No. 26465. [Class 20 (ii)] A corrugated metal bar, for use as a roof support in mines or other purposes, has flutes 1, 2, of semicircular, gothic, or other radiused or elliptical shape. Each individual corrugation of the bar thus formed, consists of top and bottom flanges 5 and webs 6 which progressively decrease in thickness from the flanges to the neutral axis. The bars may be produced by moulding, casting, pressing, or rolling, and may consist of a number of corrugations or of a single corrugation such as that shown crosshatched on the right-hand side of the drawing. The surfaces 10 between the flutes may be flat, concave, or convex. Specification 355,244 is referred to.
