[Class 102 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] Collapsable paper or like containers for lubricant &c. are emptied by being enclosed in a rigid chamber having a lining comprising a flexible pocket or bag of flexible leakproof material such as indiarubber, compressed air being introduced into the closed space afforded between the chamber and the lining to bring about the deformation of the pocket or bag, which thus causes the crushing and collapsing of the enclosed container. In the construction shown, a container 10 is enclosed in a chamber 11 provided with a rubber lining bag 14, the upper edge of which is held between the mount ring 13 and a screwed-on washer 15, the rim 10a of the container being gripped between the washer and the hinged cover 12 so as to afford a tight joint, and the cover having a discharge outlet 24 disposed in register with an opening 26 in the end of the container. Compressed air admitted by a union 17 and passage 18 to the space P between the chamber and the lining causes the container to be collapsed as indicated in chain lines. The walls of the rubber bag may be of uniform thickness, but in the construction shown they diminish in thickness from B to A, thereafter increasing to afford a thickened base portion G, such construction being found to facilitate the uniform crushing of the container. In a modification of the construction, the upper end of the rubber bag may be formed into a beaded edge 14b, Fig. 4, between which and the cover the beaded edge of the container is clamped. In a further modified construction, the mouth of the rubber bag is attached to a metal reinforcing ring 38 of angled form to render it non-deformable, the crushing action then taking place in the manner indicated in Fig. 6.
