[Classes 35 and 38 (iv)] [Also in Groups XII and XXIV] Temperature.-In a combustion - control system for a boiler 12 in which an exhaust fan 18 is driven by a thermostatically-controlled motor 19, the fan is mounted in a casing 17 having suction and discharge apertures 20, 22 communicating with the waste gas flue 13 on either side of a damper 15, transmission of heat to the motor being reduced by supporting the latter on perforated spacing legs 30 and by connecting the fan spindle 28 to the motor shaft 32 by means of a collar 34 having circumferential slots 33 in which engage spurs 31 on the shaft 32. The casing 17 is provided with a lining 29 of heat-insulating material such as asbestos. A manually-operated switch 25 and a thermostat 26 are incorporated in the feed circuit 24 for the motor 19 as shown in Fig. 1. In operation, the system functions normally under natural draught with the damper 15 fully open and the fan idle ; on fall of temperature, the thermostat 26 puts the fan into operation, the damper 15 being closed either automatically or manually by the operator when warned by the noise of the fan. The intensity of the draught in the installation may be regulated by a second damper 16 disposed in the flue 13 between the boiler 12 and the fan 18.
