Abstract
475,454. Unit air conditioner. GREY, J. A. Nov. 4, 1936, No. 30074. [Class 137] The unit comprises a casing 10 which is adapted to be built into the wall of an enclosure and includes a fan 14 which draws air through louvres 30 and blows it past tubes 16 supported on frames 17, 18 and heated electrically. An asbestos packing 15 is arranged between the casing 10 and cylindrical liner 11 for the purpose of heat and sound insulation. Fig. 3 shows a gas-heated unit in which burners 23 are arranged round a cylinder 11 from which the heat is transmitted to the air passing through by fins 25 extending radially inwards, the combustion products passing to a flue 26. A continuous coiled pipe may be employed either to heat or cool the air drawn from the outside by the fan, this pipe being connected either to a steam or hot water supply, or to a refrigerating medium such as brine.
