Abstract

473,025. Yielding clutch - plates. LAYCOCK ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., CHARLESWORTH, T. R., LEYLAND MOTORS, Ltd., and PILKINGTON, V. W. April 2, 1936, No. 9717. [Class 80 (ii)] A clutch disc 6, Fig. 2, is mounted on a cylindrical part 9 of its hub 5 and is resiliently coupled to the latter by bolts 20 which are secured to the disc and which engage in metal liners 13 inserted in radially-compressed rubber bushes 11 arranged in sockets formed in lugs 10 projecting from the hub. Each liner is longer than its bush and has at one end a flange 14 bearing against the disc 6 and a spigot 15 entering a hole in the disc, while the other end is reduced to form a shoulder against which bears a washer 17 so as to limit the axial compression applied to the bush. The bolts 20 serve also, in conjunction with bolts 23 fitted with spacing sleeves 25, to secure to the disc 6 an oil shielding plate 21 and a ring 18 which is mounted on a cylindrical part 19 of the hub. The ring 18 and disc 6 bear against washers 12 mounted at the ends of the bushes 11, so as to provide a friction damping effect. The washers 12 are of vulcanized fibre or other material which does not readily conduct heat. A pair of bolts 23 may be arranged between each pair of lugs 10, their spacing sleeves being united by webs. In the form shown in Fig. 4, where a pair of resilient discs 6a, 6b are connected to the hub, the discs are riveted near their inner peripheries to discs 28, thin spacing rings 29 being interposed. Bolts 20 connecting the discs 28 engage in the liners 13 of the bushes 11, and the discs 28 bear against the washers 12. Specification 387,178 is referred to.
