Abstract

471,276. Sewing - machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., CORRALL, H., and STEVENS, B. A. May 11, 1936, No. 13224. [Class 112] In a lock-stitching machine in which the needle bar is driven by articulation to a pivoted needle lever, as described in Specification 168,633, [Class 112], the needle lever carries and operates a take-up for the needle thread. The needle bar 3 is actuated by the ]ever 4 pivoted,on the frame and articulated to the bar 3 at 8 through the bifurcated end of a hollow rod 6 sliding in a slot 7 in the lever 4. The take-up lever 10 for the needle thread 27 is pivoted in a recess 9 in the lever 4, and has an arm 13 engaging a recess in a rod 20 sliding in the bore of the rod 6. As the lever 4 rocks to reciprocate the needle bar 3, the rod 6 slides in and out of its recess 7 to rock the take-up lever 10 about its pivot 11. A blade spring 14 engages the heel 12 of the lever 10 to tend to keep it in position. The amount of thread pulled off is determined by moving the rod 20 in the bore against the spring 19, by the screw-nut 22.
