Abstract

470,978. Making gilled tubes. RICHARD, H. A. Feb. 25, 1936, No. 5678. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XIII] A radiator for heating buildings consists of vertical tubes a of small diameter connecting two horizontal headers. Each tube is closely enclosed by the middle portion of a thin strip of metal b, the sides of which are bent outward to form diverging fins c. The metal strip is welded to the tube at d where the bent portions approach one another, and at e: The assemblage forms a corrugated structure. The sheet metal strips may be preformed between dies or profiled rollers to a V-shape and the assembled tube and strip is treated between dies or profiled rollers to enwrap the tube closely. The welding is effected while the strip is held closely around the tube. The strips may be preformed by wrapping them around tubular or solid rods of slightly less diameter than the tubes to be used.
