Abstract
470,902. Thermal switches. COMPAGNIE DES TELEPHONES THOMSONHOUSTON. Jan. 27, 1937, No. 2445. Convention date, Feb. 29, 1936. [Class 38 (v)] In a fire-alarm apparatus having an air or gas filled exploring tube 12 leading to a chamber 15 that is separated from a chamber 2 by a diaphragm 4 with a small orifice 5, a sudden rise in temperature causing movement of the diaphragm and opening of a circuit at a screw contact 6, provision is also made for the circuit to be opened when a maximum temperature is reached ' even though the rise has been slow. This is effected by a series of gas-filled chambers 13, 14 arranged at points along the tube 12 but prevented from communicating therewith by a fusible barrier which breaks down when the maximum temperature is reached and allows a sudden rush of gas to enter the tube 12 and operate the diaphragm 4. The barrier which is installed at 20 may comprise, Fig. 4, a dished member 26 having holes 28 and embedded in a lead ring 27, the interior of the dished member being filled with a fusible alloy 29. The chambers 13, 14 are adapted to be mounted on brackets which hold them well away from the wall.
