Abstract
791,690. Fusible cut-outs. LANGE, E. June 17, 1955 [June 18, 1954], No. 17599/55. Class 38 (1). An arc-extinguishing chamber surrounding a fuse wire 6 is provided with arcing contacts 15, 16 and an interposed shunt contact 11 and contains an arcextinguishing fluid. The fuse wire is led in through insulating sleeves 9, 10 so that the arc formed on blowing of the fuse jumps from these to the contacts 15, 16 and is divided by the contact 11. At the same time, the increase in pressure in the chamber caused by the formation of the arc causes an outflow of extinguishing fluid through an opening 14, which outflow extinguishes the arc between contacts 15, 11. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) two, spaced, shunt contacts are provided so that the arc is divided into three parts and openings for the arc-extinguishing fluid are provided at both ends of the chamber. Another modification (Fig. 3, not shown) has openings in the wall of the chamber adjacent the inner ends of two shunt contacts as well as openings at the ends.
