Abstract
469,774. Airscrews. ELLIOTT, A. G., and BARRINGTON, T. B. Feb. 6, 1936, No. 3627. [Class 114] The thrust race is secured to the sleave of a blade of a variable pitch propeller by a nut or other similar device attached by square or buttress threads. The blade A has a sleeve B encircling its root and this is provided with a square thread F <1> to which is threaded the nut F acting as the holder for one race D of a thrust bearing, the other member D<2> of which is supported against a screwed sleeve D<4>. This other member D<2> in turn forms a race for a second ball bearing E, the outer race E<1> of which is held by spring washers E<2>, E3 within the same securing ring D4. The bottom of the sleeve B is serrated and adapted to engage similar serrations on a ring H carrying an eccentric pin H<3> for the blade adjusting gear. This ring H is held by another ring G screwed to the main ring F. In place of the square thread, a buttress thread may be employed, and if a Whitworth thread is used on the sleeve then the thread for securing the ring G is formed of buttress or square section.
