469,405. Fluid - friction brakes. AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGSTROMS ANGTURBIN. Jan. 23, 1936, No. 2218. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1935. [Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group XXVII] Braking means for an internal combustion engine comprises a screw compressor driven by the engine, the outlet of which is adapted to be freely opened, to be throttled while the compressor is shut off from the en gine or to be connected to the air intake of the engine, thereby running idle, acting as a brake or serving as a pre-compressor for the engine. A valve 7 is arranged between the compres sor 5 and the carburetter 13 operated by a lever 8 and in the position shown connects the compressor to the carburetter. The valve 7 may be turned to connect the compressor freely to the exhaust pipe 12 by a pipe 16 or may be moved to an intermediate position to throttle the compressor. The compressed air flow is distributed between the engine and a pipe 17 leading to the exhaust pipe 12 by the throttle valve 19 and a valve 18, these valves being connected together by a link 20 so that one is opened when the other is closed. The passage 23 in the valve 7 is of such a shape that the compressor outlet can never be completely closed. For oil motors a groove in the valve 7 may connect the compressor and the motor when the valve is closed. Specifications 464,475, 464,493, and 464,494, [all in Group XXVI], are referred to.
