Abstract
469,248. Railway vehicle undercarriages. RAMOS, C. R., and BOLANOS, M. M. Jan. 21, 1936, No. 1976. Convention date, July 17, 1935. [Class 103 (vi)] In order to lessen the tendency of the wheels of railway vehicles to jump the rails, each wheel a is separately mounted in association with a substantially conical guide disc i in a frame b which is mounted on pivots c in brackets c<1> at the end of a main axle w, the gauge or lateral distance apart of the opposite discs i being less than the gauge as measured between the flanges y of the wheels a, with the result that, on a curve, if the axle w is displaced laterally, the discs i contact with the inner surfaces of the rails before the flanges y, and the point of contact of the flanges with the rail is shifted rearwardly, diminishing any tendency of the wheel to lift. The axle w is preferably swivelled to the underframe by an upper central rod l and a lower forked frame m, and it is sprung by means of longitudinal leaf springs z pivoted at o and bearing at their forward ends on rubber cushions e associated with lateral shock-absorbers x. A transverse rod h may be adapted to interconnect the forward ends of the two frames b, while the line joining the pivots c is preferably given an upward and rearward inclination.
