Abstract

468,947. Moving signs. HORSTMANN, S. A., and HORSTMAN, Ltd. Oct. 15, 1935, No. 28478. [Class 3(i)] In signs comprising two packs of display panels which are circulated through the viewing position by lateral displacement of the front and rear panels of the respective packs to the front and rear of the other pack by means of an endless travelling belt or chain, a wedge 25 is pivoted on the chain 19 to press back a pack of panels 26 prior to the adding thereto of a panel transferred from the other pack by a hook 23 carried by the chain a short distance behind the wedge. In front of the rearward moving pack, and behind the forward moving pack, is disposed a guide strip 32 against which the wedge bears, the end 33 of each guide being turned outward and medially slotted to prevent the wedge acting as a transfer means for the front panel about to be moved. The following hook 23, however, is provided with wings which engage the guide end 33 and force the hook into engagement with a slot 31 in the panel, to effect its transfer to the other pack. L-shaped abutments 35 limit the travel of the panels laterally and of the packs transversely, and a middle stop 36 assists in aligning each pack. The chain rides over platforms 37 before reaching the guide ends 33 whereby it is brought to the correct level for the hook 23 to engage the slots 31, and the hook flies out of the slot as the chain proceeds after the panel is arrested. Springs 40 bear against the tops of the panels to impart to the whole panel the movement given it at the bottom by the wedge 25, the tops of the panels being located in a slot in the frame to permit ready removal. The panels have top and bottom edges bound with brass channel sections, packing being, if desired, interposed between the channels and the panels. The side edges of the panels are turned over. Lamps 12 concealed behind frame pillars shaped as reflectors illuminate the panels. The chain 19 is driven by a sprocket-wheel 18 at one end and is tensioned by a spring-retracted wheel 20 at the other end. Two wedges 25 and hooks 23 may be provided on the chain 19, and the sign may be viewed from both sides.
