[Class 78 (iv)] The outer ring frame of a rotary tippler moves angularly relatively to and independently of the platform for supporting the wagon therein, during the initial stage of the tipping-operation, the movement being utilized to lock the wagon in position automatically. In the form shown the L - shaped platform k carries rollers o movable in slots p in the frame so that the initial movement of the frame in a clockwise direction brings supports w against the side of the wagon and also depresses the free ends of pivoted bars s through the medium of the members t so as to force the spring-pivoted members u into contact with the top of the wagon. Following this operation, the platform and frame move as a unit during the remainder of the tipping-movement and may be temporarily locked together at this stage on both tipping and return movements by a gravity pawl or wedge on the ring engaging teeth or a recess on the platform respectively. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which a gravity wedge 4 sliding in the slot 6 clamps a bar 5 in a recess in the platform k. The supports w carry rollers y running in slots and bearing against springs z, thus being mounted yieldably in the frame to permit the latter to rotate through a small angle after the supports have contacted the wagon, in cases where the platform does not commence to rotate immediately contact is established. On the return stroke, after tipping, the platform and frame revolve together until the platform abuts the stop q, following which the frame continues its rotation and releases the wagon.
