Abstract

<PICT:0468198/III/1> In an evaporator the heating steam surrounds (inner) tubes containing the liquid to be evaporated, the steam and liquid are caused to flow in opposite directions, and the steam is recirculated. The inclined steam pipes A1, A2 contain inner tubes for the liquid to be evaporated. The steam enters at H and passes along pipes A1, M, A2. Condensate is discharged at N1, N2. To increase the rate of steam flow, part of the heating steam leaves the pipe A2 at K and passes through compressor J to the entry pipe H. The liquid passes by entry P, chamber C, and connection B2 to the inner heating tubes in A2, B, A1 and thence by connection B1 to chamber C, where the liquid and its vapour are separated centrifugally. The vapour passes through guide vanes C1, which reverse the direction of flow, to the space between shells D and E and finally leaves by outlet E. This vapour may pass through pipe G1 and compressor G to the entry pipe H, where it mixes with the steam.
