[Class 146 (iii)] In a multiple pencil-holder, particularly for cosmetic sticks, and comprising an outer case having a plurality of longitudinal slots and exchangeable stick-carriers which are individually slidable in the slots by means of knobs, moving from the idle position into a notch for the position of use, and in each carrier the stick can be fed by a screw device, the rotatable member 27, Fig. 1, or 48, Fig. 9, of each stick carrier 9, has at the front end at least one lateral projection 30, Fig. 1. or 49<1>, Fig. 9, and the conical tip 5 of the casing sleeve 1 is rotatable, and has in the interior at least one notch 8 for engagement with the projection 30, 491 when the carrier 9 is advanced, so that the stick 33, 46 can be advanced or retracted in the carrier by rotation of the tip 5. The three carriers 9, Fig. 1, each comprise a sleeve 18, to which is secured at one end a helically slotted sleeve 25 ; within the sleeve 25 a longitudinally slotted sleeve 27 is rotatably secured by a collar 26. A sleeve 29, provided with projections 30 in the form of helical grooves of high pitch, is secured to the sleeve 27, and, when the carrier is advanced, engages grooves 8 on a cone 7 secured within the tip 5, so that rotation of the tip 5 advances the cosmetic stick 33, held in a sleeve 31, in the usual way. The rear end of the sleeve 18 is secured to a blade spring 11 which carries an elongated knob 12. The web 13 of the knob 12 is trapezoidal in section and slides in a slot 14 in the casing 1, and at the forward end of its travel is guided by an inclined forward edge of the slot into engagement with an offset notch which has an inclined rear edge to engage the edge of the web 13. The carrier 9 is pulled towards inactive position by a spring 23 surrounding a rod 21 in the inner end of the sleeve 18. The thickened end 24 of the rod 21 engages a notch 38 in a plate 37 and is retained by a hole 40 in a plate 39. At the end of the retracting movement of the cosmeticstick 33 continued rotation of the tip 5 turns the whole carrier 9 in a direction to release the web 13 from the notch of the slot 14, so that it may be retracted by the spring 23. The slot 14, is closed by the knob 12 in the inactive position and by the spring 11 in the active position. In the modification shown in Fig. 9, the retracting compression spring is mounted inside a separate sleeve 51, carried by a blade spring 44, to which is secured a longitudinally slotted sleeve 4. The helically slotted sleeve 48 rotates on the sleeve 42 and carries the projections 49<1> for engagement with the casing tip.
