Abstract
466,024. Deadening vibrations. OMAR, S. Nov. 18, 1935, No. 31947. [Class 36] A device for damping vibrations in overhead wires comprises a flexible member c which bridges the point at which the wire is suspended and is suspended from the wire a at a number of points situated on each side of a suspension point. The damping member preferably consists of # S.W.G. galvanized stranded steel wire or steel cored aluminium wire and may extend ten to fifteen feet on each side of the suspension clamp b. The damper clamps d may be of aluminium, copper or other metal formed in two parts with parallel grooves for the wires a, c.and they are preferably spaced apart a distance equal to the distance between anodal points under the worst conditions, i.e., about four feet, the spacing of the central clamps across the suspension clamp being about six feet. The damping wire which is next under tension is suspended so that it can vibrate freely without striking the wire or the wire suspension means and its weight is substantially evenly distributed over the clamps.
