Abstract
465,696. Controlling change-speed gearing. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AKT.-GES. June 19, 1936, No. 17163. Convention date, June 26, 1935. [Class 80 (ii)] Change-speed control mechanism for vehicles comprises a selector arm 8, Fig. 3, which is moved always one way, to the left of Fig. 2, to bring in a speed selected by sliding the arm 8 laterally as by a cable 13, Fig. 3. A spring 12 which yields for motion in both directions allows of preselection. Striking levers 2, 3 engage shift rods 6, 7 which are moved from neutral in both directions. These rods are moved left of Fig. 2 by the arm 8 engaging them directly at 16 and at 17. The rod 6 is moved right when the arm 8 engages an auxiliary rod 18 at 24 and the arm 8 thereafter moving left, as usual. A lever 20 pivoted at 19 reverses the motion. The rod 7 is moved right when the arm 8 engages an auxiliary hooked rod 21 at 25. A lever 23 reverses the motion. On each striking movement, preferably effected by release of the main clutch pedal (not shown) through a link 29, Fig. 3, the arm 8 passes into one of a set of parallel notches R, N, I, II, III, and IV in a gate 40 immediately above the shift rods. Depression of the clutch pedal rocks the arm 8 right out of its gate notch so that the shift rods are brought to the neutral position shown in Fig. 2. There is a separate striker 4 for reverse, and the gate notch. N for neutral is a blind one.
