Abstract

462,566. Proofing and hardening strata, masonry, &c. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. Dec. 3, 1935, Nos. 33526 and 33527. Convention dates, Jan. 8 and Oct. 14. Drawings to Specification. [Class 68 (i)] [Also in Group VIII] In proofing soil, rock, masonry, &c., against water or gases, or agglomerating loose soils, by causing impregnating agents such as aqueous dispersions of bituminous substances, cement or clay suspensions, precipitate-forming liquids &c. to penetrate the mass, a plurality of impregnating agents comprising bitumen dispersions alone, or one or more bitumen dispersions in conjunction with other impregnating agents, are successively applied in two or more stages. A stabilized bitumen dispersion may be first introduced followed by a less stable dispersion, or by a series of dispersions of successively decreasing stability. Filling substances, such as a clay suspension may be added to one or more of the dispersions. Following partial proofing by coagulation of one bitumen dispersion, a previous dispersion may be drawn back, as by pumping off ground water, to complete the proofing. Temporary proofing by polysaccharides, gums, proteins &c., may be followed by application of a bitumen dispersion, and the temporary proofing agent may then be removed by washing or by biological or chemical agencies. Examples of proofing mixtures are given. Specifications 409,760 ; and 410,479, [Group VIII], are referred to.
