Abstract

461,862. Valves. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. July 8, 1936, No. 18934. Convention date, July 8, 1935. [Class 7 (vi)] In two-stroke engines wherein the suction created by the outflow of exhaust is used to effect the induction of the scavenging or charging air, the inlet or exhaust valves, or both, of the poppet type, are formed with a closure surface parallel to the direction of movement of the valve. Fig. 1 shows an engine with the exhaust at 10 controlled by the piston, the inlet at 3 being controlled by a poppet valve 4, the head of which is formed with a cylindrical surface 9a, Fig. 4, co-operating with a corresponding surface .9 on the seating. The valve preferably opens into a combustion space 6 of less diameter than the cylinder, and only so much larger than the valve as to avoid throttling of the gases passing therethrough.
