Abstract

460,008. Gauging toothed gears. MAHR GES., C. July 17, 1936, No. 19872. Convention date, March 17. [Class 106 (ii)] The wheel d to be tested is carried by a spindle c on a resiliently mounted slide b, the displacements of which are transmitted to an indicating device k while a screw spindle g provided with dentiform threads in the axial longitudinal direction is adapted to be inclined and adjusted with respect to the axis of the wheel d, the screw threads rolling over the teeth of the wheel when the spindle is pushed along or rotated. The screw g is mounted to slide or turn in a head f adapted to be turned in a bearing in a slide e, so that the axis of the screw may be inclined at an angle to the axis of the wheel, which angle is indicated by a pointer h. The spindle can be made very long so that when pushed or pulled it causes the gear to run over it, or so short that it merely needs to turn. A spring l gives the necessary tooth pressure. The wheel is moved along its axis by means not shown, so that the tooth flanks may be tested along the whole of their width.
