Abstract

459,655. Lifts. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and SMART, N. C., c/o General Electric Co., Ltd., Stoke, Coventry. Nov. 7, 1935, No. 26035/36. Divided application. [Class 78 (ii)] A system of control for an electrically operated lift comprises a plurality of similar groups of apparatus, each group comprising means for call storage and cancelling, means for following the lift's position and means for controlling the stopping of the lift only while the lift is situated or travelling in a portion of the shaft allocated to the group. Fig. 1 shows the apparatus associated with a group of floors, Fig. 2, that associated with a further group, the apparatus below the terminals 1 ... 26 being identical with that of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows the control apparatus for the lift motor. Calls are stored for the first group of floors by floor buttons FA ... FD and car buttons CA ... CD and those for the second group by buttons FE ... FH, CE ... CH, calls being stored in relay groups A ... D. Switch W, Fig. 1. is stepped in synchronism with the lift position when the lift is operated within the limits of the first group of floors and that of Fig. 2 when the lift is working in the range of the second group. Operation of lift in response to a call from a floor outside the group corresponding to the existing lift position. Assuming the lift is in floor group (1) and a call from group (2) is registered, the appropriate storage relay A ... D is operated and a chain circuit associated with wiper W1 is opened and direction relays DR in both groups are operated into positions corresponding to the required direction of travel. Relays R in both groups also are operated and the motor contactor relay UD or DD is operated to start the motor. Stepping circuits for the switches Ware prepared over the appropriate magnets WA, WB. The stepping magnet circuit, Fig. 1. is closed at points midway between floors by an inductor relay ZA and when the lift arrives at a point midway between the last floor of the first group and the first floor of the second group, both relays ZA, ZB, the former moving wipers of switch W, Fig. 1, off active contacts and being inoperative thereafter whilst the latter is brought into use for stepping the switch W, Fig. 2. When the lift approaches the required floor a circuit is completed over wiper W1, Fig. 2, for stopping relay ST, Fig. 1, and, when at the floor, inductor relay ZC closes a circuit over contact st<2> to short-circuit both relays R which cancel the call and stops the motor. A gate relay G responsive to closure of all the gates, prevents call storage and operation of the motor when a gate is open. Synchronizing positions of lift and stepping switches. In either of the limiting positions of the lift a limit switch LU or LD is operated to allow operation of relay T, Fig. 1 or 2. and the closure of a self-driving circuit for driving the corresponding switch in its limit position. Mounting control apparatus. Each apparatus group is mounted on a separate plate provided with an interconnecting jack or terminal strip as described in Specification 453,723 in order to provide facilities for replacement.
