Abstract

459,438. Speed-control mechanism for ring spinning &c. machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and JACOBY, H. C. E., c/o General Electric Co., Ltd., Witton, Birmingham. July 1, 1935, No. 18757. [Class 120 (ii)] The speed-control mechanism of electrically driven ring spinning or like machines comprises a bracket 1 mounted on the motor casing transversely to the axis of the motor, and carrying carns 8, 13 for determining the cyclic and basic variation on one side of a central web, and the change gearing 14 of the basic cam on the other side. Flanges 2 permit complete enclosure of the mechanism by removable covers. The bracket is mounted at one end of the motor casing and the cams 8, 13 are driven through sprockets 7, 6 from sprockets 10, 9 respectively coupled to the building- motion shaft and the ratchet-wheel shaft of the machine, the change gearing 14 being arranged between the sprocket 6 and the cam 13. A shaft 35 is connected with the brushshifting gear of the motor and is operated by a link 23 to which a composite movement is imparted by the cams 8, 13. Links 22, 21 extending from the link 23 are respectively coupled to a lever 19 operated by the cam 13, and engaged by a lever 20 operated by the cam 8. The extent of the movement imparted by the lever 20 is determined by the position of the roller 33 which is varied during the building of the cop by a connecting rod 25 adjustably coupled to the lever 19 by pin-andhole connections 26. A spring maintains engagement of the cams, levers and links. The shaft 35 extends through a long bearing 36 and is connected by an adjustable crank 37 through an intermediate part 45 with the control lever 41 of the motor. The control handle 42 is coupled to the part 45 by a bolt 43 so that it may be readily disconnected by a transverse movement to effect independent adjustment of the speed.
