Abstract
812,298. Sewing machines. PFAFF A-G., G.M. Aug. 29, 1956 [Sept. 12, 1955], No. 26352/56. Class 112 In a sewing machine having a stitchadjusting mechanism comprising a disc 32 connected to an operating knob 29 and formed with an aperture 33 with two abutment edges 34 and 35 for limiting the movement of a stitch-length defining lever 46 at positions corresponding to the same stitch length for forward and reverse feed respectively, said edges are continuously curved in asymmetric relationship and their radial distances from a neutral circle concentric with the axis of rotation of said disc are inversely related to each other, and said disc is co-axial with a stitchsetting shaft 62 which is part of an operative connection between lever 46 and an operating knob 63. Lever 46 is pivoted on a pin 44 carried by a fixed bracket 41, and is provided with a pin 48 which is disposed in aperture 33 and is spring-biased against edge 34, controlling the stitch length in the forward direction. Disc 32 is connected to knob 29 by a hollow shaft 28 which is journalled in a fixed sleeve 27 and journals shaft 62. The latter carries at its inner end three radial arms 58, 66 and 68. A spring 64 connected between arm 66 and an extension of pin 44 normally biases arm. 68 against the latter. Clockwise movement of shaft 62, imparted thereto by knob 63, carries arm 58 into engagement with a pin 57 provided on lever 46, and thereby shifts pin 48 from edge 34 to edge 35 controlling the stitch length in the reverse direction. Lever 46 is connected by a link 20 to an arm 18 on a stitch-adjusting member 14 pivoted at 15 on the machine frame. A spring 53, acting on a second arm of member 14. serves to bias pin 48 against edge 34. A block 13, slidable in a guide groove in member 14, is pivoted at 12 to a bar 8. One end of the latter is forked to embrace a cam 7 on the machine arm shaft 5, and the other end is pivoted to a crank 9 on a shaft 11 controlling the feed advance movement of a feed dog.
