Abstract

457,823. Screw propellers. FAIREY, C. R., c /o Fairey Aviation Co., Ltd., North Hyde Road, Hayes, Middlesex. June 7, 1935, No. 16623. [Class 114] Each blade of an air-screw propeller is provided remote from its tip and adjacent the leading edge with a slot passing through from one face to the other. The slot c may be straight or simply curved or doubly curved and may be discontinuous and formed in sections with solid portions d of the blade a between. In order that the size of the slot may be varied the nose portion g is secured to the main part of the blade a by a rod h which is hydraulically retractable in a cylinder k. In an alternative form, the nose piece g is tapped and screwed at n and the connecting bolt o is provided with a worm wheel p with which an operating worm q engages.
