457,304. Cylinders. AUTO UNION AKT.-GES., 110, Scheffelstrasse, Chemnitz, Germany. March 30, 1936, No. 9448. Convention date, March 28, 1935. [Class 7 (ii)] In a two-stroke engine, piston-controlled ports are so arranged that each half of the cylinder contains an exhaust port and an inlet port or a group of inlet ports which are parallel, but oppositely-directed, to a corresponding port or group in the other half. Examples of many modifications are shown in transverse section through the cylinder ports, S1, S2 being the parallel inlet ports and A1, A2 the exhaust ports. The inlet ports may be transverse or inclined towards the cylinder head. The inlet and exhaust may be superposed and additional inlet ports Sm, Sn may be provided. The height of the inlet ports may decrease outwardly from the central plane XX.
