Abstract
455,803. Motor wheels; driving- gearing. ARETZ, A., 102, Rosenbergstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. June 15, 1935, No. 17276. Convention date, June 16, 1934. [Classes 79 (ii) and 79 (iii)] In motor-cycles of the type having the motor located in one of the road wheels, the motor is mounted so as to be freely rotatable on the hub or axle 2 of the road wheel, and its reaction is obtained through a resilient member 32 connecting the motor to a bolt 33 on the cycle frame 3. The motor is combined with gearing to form a self-contained driving block, and has the fuel container 16 mounted above the gear block and screwed to the motor casing with an S-shaped fuel pipe 18 to the carburetter 13. The road-wheel spokes 30 are fixed to a drum 28 which receives the motor block and which is provided with radial slots 29 for air-cooling purposes. A removable clutch or a change-speed gear may be embodied in a lay-shaft of the motor gearing.
