Abstract

454,077. Electric resonant circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., 63, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Crawford, A. B.) March 27, 1936, No. 9179. Convention date, May 17, 1935. [Class 40 (iii)] A resonator of the quarter-wave-length coaxial-cylinder type is tuned by moving one end or other of the inner conductor 1 away from the axis of the outer conductor 2, set screws 8 and slots 6 being provided for this purpose. Eccentricity of the inner conductor at the short-circuited end decreases the natural frequency while eccentricity at the open-circuited end diminishes that frequency. Electrical connection is made at 9, 10, and the resonator is short-circuited at the right-hand end, the block 4 being of conductive material. It is open-circuited at the left-hand end, the end part 5 of the inner conductor being a glass rod, while the spacer 3 is conductive. Alternatively the spacer 3 and associated screws 8 may be insulating, the glass rod 5 being dispensed with. One such resonator may be connected in the plate circuit and another in the grid circuit of a valve oscillator, Fig. 3 (not shown); or such a resonator may be connected in the cathodeearth circuit of a Barkhausen oscillator to act as a radio-frequency choke, Fig. 4 (not shown). Specification 283,651, [Class 40 (v)], is referred to.
