Abstract

453,344. Diamond drills. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. May 13, 1936, No. 13559. Convention date, May 15, 1935. [Class 124] A diamond core drill has parallel inner and outer surfaces, a flat base 7 and frusto-conical connecting surfaces 8 and 9 all set with diamonds 14. The inner and outer surfaces have ribs 10, 11. The tool is made by coating the surface of an annular groove in a carbon block with a sticky mixture of beeswax and resin, placing the diamonds in this, and then filing the groove with powdered tungsten carbide and cobalt. This is then sintered at about 1300‹ C. under pressure, the sticky layer being burnt off and the diamonds exposed. Specifications 352,124 and 419,126 are referred to.
