Abstract

451,415. Clutches allowing slip. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA, 30, Rockefeller Plaza, New York, U.S.A. Dec. 31, 1934, No. 37405. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1933. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXXIV] A clutch device which produces constant friction, more particularly for transmitting constant torque, for instance for the reels of motion-picture films, comprises a friction member 13 mounted at the end of a pivoted shank 12 and making an acute angle with a normal to the frictional surface of the drum 10 with which the friction member co-operates and a spring 14 urging the friction member against the driving torque whereby the friction member oscillates on its pivot in response to variations in driving torque. The drum 10 which rotates in an anticlockwise direction is the driving member, power from which is transmitted by the friction member to the driven member 11 on which the friction member is pivoted. A modification is shown adapted to operate in either direction and comprises a relatively stiff spring in place of the arm 12, which can move in either direction past a radial position.
