450,736. Collar stiffenings- ELSBACH & CO. AKT.-GES., J., Herford, Westphalia, Germany. Sept. 19, 1935, No. 26025. Convention date, Sept. 19, 1934. [Class 141] The front edges of collars are stiffened by sewing a strip of waterinsoluble adhesive between the layers of the collar material, softening the adhesive by means of a solvent, and hot-pressing it so that it cements the layers together. Preferably, a cellulose derivative, such as cellulose acetate is employed. As shown in Fig. 1, the hem 2 of the collar is stuck down by a strip of the adhesive which, when it hardens, forms a bar-like stiffener. A strip or cord of artificial silk, or a fabric woven of artificial silk and cotton threads, may be used. As shown in Fig. 4, the edge 2 of the collar is bound with a tape 5 formed of, or carrying, the adhesive. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the application of the stiffening strip to multi-ply collars and states that it may be arranged inclined rearwardly from the point of the collar. The strip may not extend completely up to the fold of the collar. The entire edge of the outer part of the collar may be stiffened. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
