[Class 140] A flexible laminated material is formed by superimposing layers of textile fabric containing yarns of an organic derivative of cellulose and foil or sheeting of an organic derivative of cellulose, with a layer of foil or sheeting on each outer surface of the assembly, and causing the layers to adhere together. Adhesive is preferably effected without the aid of adhesives, the surface of one of the layers being softened by heat or by a solvent and bonding effected by pressure. Thus a fabric may be interposed between two layers of foil and united by heat and pressure. An adhesive, e.g. a thin layer of liquid or powder comprising an organic derivative of cellulose and a plasticizer may, however, be employed, or, alternatively, lacquers containing nitrocellulose, phenol - aldehyde resin, diphenylol propane - aldehyde resin, vinyl resins, casein resins, &c., dissolved in a volatile solvent. The fabric may be woven, knitted, knotted, welted or braided and may be composed wholly or partly of yarns or filaments of organic derivatives of cellulose. The yarns may contain pigments, fillers, dyes, fire retardents, softening-agents, sizes, and lubricants; examples are given. The foil or sheeting preferably contains plasticizers and may also contain colouring and other effect materials. The products are waterproof and may be employed for shower bath curtains, pocketbooks, moisture-proof bags, raincoats, &c. The material may be cemented to wood, enamelware, &c.
