447,142. Chain - gearing; internalcombustion engine valve-gear. ALLWOOD, F. F., Kenton, Walpole Street, Derby. Dec. 19, 1934, No. 36438. [Class 80 (i)] [See also Group XXVII] To permit removal of the chain of an endless chain drive, one of the chain wheels is provided with a detachable centre-piece g, which is adapted to be readily slid off the end of the shaft h, after which the outer part c can be displaced radially, so that the chain comes out of the gaps f<1> between the teeth f. The centre-piece may be secured to the outer part by, say, five bolts g<1>, while the outer part has 96 teeth, thus permitting phase adjustment. In the form shown, the centre-piece g is held on the tapered end of the shaft h by a nut h<4> and lock-washer. The invention is more particularly applicable to the timing-gear drive of an internal-combustion engine.
