[Class 122 (i)] [See also Group XXVII] Radiating ribs 2 of an aircooled cylinder are subdivided by slots 3, 3<a> which extend nearly to the cylinder wall, but leave a continuous strip 4 adjacent thereto. The slots may all be radial; and may break joint in successive ribs ; alternatively the cylinder may be cast in a mould divided along the centre of two radial slots 3, the other slots being arranged to allow the mould to be divided. The slots may be formed by sawing after the ribs have been cast.
