Abstract
446,578. Ventilators. MARSHALL, J., 4, Westbourne Gardens, Glasgow. Nov. 1, 1934, Nos. 31337 and 33679. [Class 137] A ventilation air outlet fitting has an inner outlet passage 8 delivering air as a high velocity stream, an outer divergent outlet 3 disposed round the inner passage for delivering diffused air at a low velocity and valve means operated preferably from the front, and diverting the air through either passage or partly through both. Air is delivered under pressure at 22 to a part-spheroidal or part-spherical casing 5 and is guided to pass round or through the tube 8 by a pivoted flap valve comprising two flat members 10 hinged at 12a in the tube 8 and operated by a rod 13 with a slotted link 24 engaging pins 21 on flanges 11 of the members 10. When the members 10 are closed together by pulling out the rod 13, air passes round the tube 8 and is diffused by a flange 25 thereon. The casing 5 is angularly adjustable on pivots within a bearing 6 which is rotatable within flanges 7 ; or the bearing 6 may be fixed and have an extension 6b cutting off the air supply when it covers the end 22 of the air inlet and the casing 5 may be universally adjustable therein. In Fig. 5, a stationary streamlined baffle 27 is placed within the casing 5, and a tube 26 is slidable inwards against the air inlet 22 so that air passes within the tube as a high-velocity stream. On sliding the tube 26 out against the baffle 27, air passes round the tube and is discharged at a low velocity diffused between the tube 26 and the casing 5 which carries a bearing 29.
