[Class 107] The elastically constrained ram of a roadramming machine is energized by a stationary driving device 4 operating in tune with the natural frequency of the ram and acting mainly or exclusively in a vertical direction, means, such as abutments 24 and coacting members 23, being provided to prevent overstressing of the elastic means when the machine is idling. As shown, the machine may carry two rams 1, each suspended by undamped springs 2 from a crosshead 3 which can be moved vertically within the machine frame 19 by screws 5 actuated by hand wheels 8. An electric motor 10 is supported on the frame 19 and is connected by links 11, 12, and chain-and-sprocket gearing 13 ... 18 to the driving cam 4. This cam operates the rams by way of double semielliptical leaf springs 20. Inharmonic oscillations are produced by rolling-contact members 21, 22, which curtail the effective length of the springs 20 as the flexion increases or, alternatively, by rubber buffers mounted within the springs 2.
