Abstract

A product containing potassium or sodium sulphates together with calcium and magnesium sulphates is obtained by treating a mixture of dolomite and potassium or sodium chloride with a gaseous current of water vapour, air and sulphur dioxide at a temperature above 350 DEG C., preferably about 500 DEG C. The product may be used as a fertilizer. The hydrochloric acid also evolved may be condensed. The sulphates of calcium and magnesium in the product may be in the form of a double salt. Preferably, the solids and gases are brought to reaction in counter-current in a rotary kiln.ALSO:A fertilizer containing potassium or sodium sulphate together with calcium and magnesium sulphates is obtained by treating a mixture of dolomite and potassium or sodium chloride with a gaseous current of water vapour, air and sulphur dioxide at a temperature above 350 DEG C., preferably about 500 DEG C.
