Abstract

443,200. Electromagnetic sound and like recording and reproducing apparatus. LIGUORI, G., 50, Central Park South, New York, U.S.A. May 18, 1934, No. 15050. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 20, 1934]. [Class 40 (ii)] In apparatus for electromagnetically recording and reproducing sound and like oscillations, during recording relative movement occurs between a magnetizable member f such as a wire or strip and an electromagnet b adapted to produce an open magnetic flux, the members f, b being in contact with each other, whilst during reproduction relative movement occurs with the member f close to but without touching the electromagnet which is inductively influenced thereby. In the construction shown, the electromagnet b, which is used both for recording and reproducing, is connected to a screw d, by means of which it may be adjusted either into contact with or slightly spaced from the record body f. The coil b may be used without a core a. The magnetizable member f is preferably of uniform cross-section, but it is stated that "special effects may be obtained by providing changes in the cross-section as well as in the distribution of the magnetizable matter within the member." The oscillations to be recorded or reproduced may be transmitted directly or indirectly to or from the coil b, e.g. by wired or wireless transmission.
