Abstract

441,895. Discharge lamps. BOSCH, F. J. G. VAN DEN, 131, Rue Markelbach, Brussels. Oct. 13, 1934, No. 29381. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1933. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] [See also Group XI] In electric lamps of the type in which the light is emitted from spaced electrodes heated to incandescence by a discharge through a gas between them, the filling consists of a rare gas, nitrogen and hydrogen, the amounts of nitrogen and hydrogen being not more than 20 and 5 per cent respectively of the amount of rare gas. The electrodes may consist of two parallel wires of round, flat or other suitable cross-section, spaced 1 to 2À5 mms. apart for mains voltages of from 110 to 220 volts. Wires of circular cross-section may vary in diameter from 0À2 mm. to 1 mm. for ratings of from 10 to 100 watts. The electrodes may be of tungsten or containing tantalum nitrite, and preferably at least one electrode is treated with boron to increase its resistance, for example, by heating it in an atmosphere of boron trichloride.
