Abstract

376,208. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Patent-Treuhand-Ges. fur Elektrische Gl³hlampen; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin.) Feb. 29, 1932, No. 6072. Convention date, April 16, 1931. [Class 39 (i).] Conducting members 9, 10 extend from the ends of the tube to within a short distance of each other, and are connected through a variable resistance 14. On applying the voltage to the main electrodes 7, glow discharges are formed between each electrode and the neighbouring conducting member, and the gas or vapour filling of the tube becomes quickly ionized. The electrodes may consist of sintered mixtures of refractory metals and electron-emitting substances and may be heated e.g. for 10 to 30 seconds by windings 6. The members 9, 10 are supported by glass beads 11 and wires 12 and may be covered with electron-emitting substances.
