Abstract

A powder for treating molten metals, particularly lead or tin, or lead-tin and lead-tin-antimony alloys such as are used in type and stereotype founding, comprises by volume 20-30 per cent of sodium chloride, 20-25 per cent of ammonium chloride, and carbon, preferably wood charcoal, with or without starch, nitre, sulphur, and rosin. Preferably the proportion of carbon is 25-40 per cent and the proportions of sodium chloride and ammonium chloride are about equal. Specification 400,258 is referred to.
