Abstract

440,725. Combined buffing and draw-gear for railway vehicles. GLASCODINE, R. T., and SPENCER MOULTON & CO., Ltd., G., 2, Central Buildings, Westminster. July 4, 1934, No. 19699. [Class 103 (v)] In a buffing and draw-gear for railway &c. vehicles of the kind in which the couplershank 1 is associated with a central set of springs 18-20 located within a yoke 8 and between the centre sills 6, 7 and also with additional sets of springs 21-23 arranged on the outside of the sills, actuation of the outer sets of springs is effected by means of flexible or resilient beams 26, 27 which pass transversely through slots 10, 11 m the yoke 8 and through slots 12, 13 in the sills 6, 7 to engage the followers 28, 29 of the outer springs 21-23. Preferably the beams 26, 27 are constituted by horizontally disposed leaf springs constructed as described in Specification 437,287. Each set of buffing and draw springs consists of three sets of indiarubber springs arranged in tandem, with interposed follower elements 30, 31 as described in Specification 335,168, [Class 103 (v)], adapted to effect parallel compression of the individual springs, each spring consisting in known manner of perforated metal plates with rubber projecting on each side combined with metal separating plates. The central set of springs 18-20 is disposed between front and rear castings 24, 14, the initial compression of the outer springs 21-23 may be adjusted by tie-bolts 34, while the sills 6, 7 may be reinforced by suitable metal castings.
