Abstract
440,209. Walls ; building blocks. HOLLAND & HANNEN & CUBITTS, Ltd., 1, Queen Anne's Gate, Westminster.- (Schr÷der, W. ; 1, Rhodiusstrasse, M³lheim, Cologne, Germany) June 23, 1934, No. 18634. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] To permit variations in wall thickness in multiples of a quarter of the minimum thickness, the bricks are made angular in plan and with the sides of definite lengths made up of a certain minimum unit a, say 2 ins., and joint thickness b. Thus in the basic form of block A, Fig. 1, the inner side 4-5 is of length a+ b, the side 5-6 is 2a+b, sides 6-1 and 3-4 are 2a, 1-2 is 4a+b, and 2-3 is 3a+b. The height may be 2a, 3a + b, 4a + b, and so on. Fig. 7 shows a wall of minimum thickness 4a+b; other solid and cavity walls are described and vary in thickness up to 6a+2b. The angle blocks, Fig. 1, may be used with rectangular blocks such as E, F, Fig. 7, C, Fig. 9, and B, C, E, Fig. 24; the lengths of such blocks may be a, 2a, 3a + b, 4a + b, and 6a+ 2b. The combinations of angular and rectangular blocks may be formed as integral Z-shaped blocks, Figs. 12, 17, 24, and 26, the dimensions of which bear definite relations to those of the unit blocks. The dotted lines 40 indicate the equivalent of joints, and apertures 15 may be round or of other shape. The blocks may be made of burnt clay, lime sandstone, or light porous concrete.
