Abstract

439,308. Hand-tool handles. SHAW, D. M., 3, Courtside, High Street, Sydenham, London. July 12, 1934, No. 20399. [Class 61 (i)] [See also Group XV] A grip or handle for the shafts of bi-manual percussive or swinging implements such as golf clubs, cricket bats, fishing rods, and sledge hammers comprises a tubular sleeve 1 of greater diameter than the shaft 2 and concentrically encloses the shaft but is rigidly attached thereto only about the nodal region and extends below the nodal region a sufficient distance to accommodate that hand of the wielder which is nearest the operative end. In Fig. 1 the sleeve 1 and the shaft 2 are interconnected by a bridging collar 3 to which both parts 1 and 2 are welded and the hands of the wielder grasp the sleeve on each side of the collar. In a modification, the free end of a tapering shaft is welded at the centre of the sleeve and in a further modification, Fig. 3, a short sleeve 6 is used. The part of the shaft enclosed by the sleeve may taper to an extent greater than that shown, the diameter being again increased outside the sleeve for the sake of appearance.
