Abstract

437,882. Railway tip-wagons. HUDSON, W. S., and HUDSON, P., Raletrux House, Meadow Lane, Leeds. June 6, 1935, No. 16469. [Class 103 (iv)] Relates to railway tip-wagons of the kind which when full will automatically discharge their contents on release of a catch and remain in the discharge position until a second catch is released, when they will automatically return to their normal upright position. In order to effect a tipping of the wagon body in case it should be incompletely filled a positively-acting mechanism is added comprising a flexible chain or cable 1 adapted to be wound upon a drum 3 and having its free end 5 releasably engaged with a trigger-controlled anchor age 6 upon the wagon body 9. As shown the anchorage 6 consists of a hook pivoted within a bracket 8 and maintained in an effective position by a trigger 10 which, at the end of the tipping movement, Fig. 3, encounters a fixed abutment 15 and so causes the connector 1 to be released. The body is retained in the discharge position in known manner by an automatic catch 13 releasable by a pull on a handle 14, the arrangement preferably being duplicated to allow tipping to either side. The drum 3 may, as shown be mounted on the end of a wheel axle 4 so as to be rotated by movement of the wagon, the connector 1 being engaged with the hook 6 at a short distance from the discharge point, or the drum may be manually operated.
