[Classes 20 (iv) and 107] A road is formed with an upper porous layer B having a horizontal upper surface and an impervious cambered base A adapted to direct the drainage water, which percolates through the upper surface, to longitudinal drainage channels, disposed at one or both sides of the road, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, respectively. The base is composed of concrete or the like, and may be formed with transverse grooves for facilitating the drainage. The upper layer is of concrete or tar-macadam prepared from large aggregate so as to provide the necessary voids. This layer may be formed of pre-cast blocks. The road kerbs may be perforated to allow the water to escape therethrough to the longitudinal drainage channels or ditches. Alternatively, gullies C, Fig. 1, are provided at intervals adjacent the kerb and the longitudinal edges of the base A, along which the drainage water flows, are given a slight drainage fall. To facilitate drainage, perforated or spaced inverted half-channel pieces G may be placed along the edges of the cambered base.
