Abstract
435,995. Surgical operating tables. ALLEN & HANBURYS, Ltd., and GAMBLE, G. T., 37, Lombard Street, London. March 24, 1934, No. 9292. [Class 52 (iii)] [See also Group VI] A surgical operating table wherein the table proper is carried by a vertically movable member supported in a pedestal or base is provided on the pedestal or base with supporting means for leg - extension and like apparatus comprising bars or like members extending below and beyond the edge of the table. As shown, a table 1, mounted on a pedestal 2, including a hydraulic lift 3 and comprising two parts relatively movable about a central transverse hinge as by screw and nut mechanism, has detachably supported on the base as by a pin and slot connection a pair of pillars 4 at one end and a single pillar 4b at the other end. An extension 2b of the pedestal 2 detachably supports a fourth pedestal which, together with the pillar 4b, projects through apertures in the table 1 in its horizontal position, and carries in a socket a pillar 8 having a cylindrical enlargement 8a with a longitudinal groove and plate 8c to support the sacrum. The pillar 4b carries a socket receiving a shoulders support 9. The supports 8c, 9 are substantially flush with the table in its raised position to permit their insertion and subsequent lowering of the table with minimum discomfort to the patient. A dished headsupport 10 is carried by a bracket, securable to the underside of either end of the table and including a clampable ball-and-socket joint and mutually clampable slotted arms for adjustment. The pedestal extension 2b carries a spindle 16 rotatable as by a crank 16b and having opposite screw threads engaged by nuts 16a. Leg-extension bars 7 are pivoted at 7a to the nuts 16a (which are adjusted to the width of the patient's hips), and are adjustably clamped at 5a to a curved bar 5 carried by the pillars 4. The bars 7 carry kneesupports 7b, comprising U-shaped members having loops 7c to receive bandages and horizontal and vertical supporting bars secured by clamps 7e, 7g. The bars 7 also carry legextension apparatus comprising vertically disposed U-shaped members 7i having terminal slots receiving loop-ended steel strips 7o to which the feet are bound. The members 7i are carried by screw spindles 7j passing through sockets 7k and moved outwardly to extend the legs by wing nuts 7n. The sockets 7k are supported on brackets movable along and clampable to the bars 7. Rotation of the clamps on the bars is prevented by keys 7h. In order to treat an arm the sacrum and shoulder supports 8c, 9, are interchanged and one of the leg-extension bars 7 is replaced by a short bar 17 clampable to an extension 5b of the arcuate bar 5. The bar 17 has adjustably clamped to it vertically and horizontally extending bars 17d, 17e, carrying clampable hooks 17f to which bandages around the patient's wrist and elbow are attached. The head-rest 10 is transferred to the other end of the table and a U-shaped leg rest fitted in its place. For chest operations the pillar 8 is removed and a spine-supporting strip supported on the pillar thereof and on the shoulder support 9 or a smaller plate replacing it.
