Abstract

435,415. Flexible towing connections. POLLARD, R. J., 1, Dracaena Avenue, Falmouth, Cornwall. March 23, 1934, No. 9155. [Class 78 (ii)] [See also Group XXXIII] A device, for preventing a tow rope from fouling the ground &c. or parts of the connected vehicles &c. when the tow interval lessens, consists of a pivoted arm 1, 2 normally biassed upward by a spring and carrying at its free end a pulley 6 over which the tow-rope 22 takes, the arm having also a pivoted movement in the horizontal plane. When the rope tension slackens the arm 1, 2 rises as shown in chain lines, carrying the rope upward off the road or water. The parts 1, 2 of the arm are pivoted together at 3, the part 1 consisting of two cheeks embracing the joint end of the part 2, a pin and slot engagement 4, 5 allowing bending of the arm in one direction only. An adjustable spiral spring fixed to a stationary pivot pin 11 in a bracket 13 lies between disc-shaped extremities of the cheeks 1 and bears on the arm at 20, 21. The bracket 13 is pivoted to a supporting shelf 14 about a vertical axis, and the bracket or the shelf may be readily removable.
